Frequently asked questions

How do I merge PDF files?

Add two or more files, drag them into the order you want, and click Merge PDF. The combined file downloads straight away. If you need more files afterwards, use Add Files — the list you have already built is kept.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. All merging happens in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device, ensuring complete privacy.

Can I reorder pages before merging?

Yes. Each file is one block of pages, and you set the order by dragging a row by its grip handle. Keyboard users can focus a handle and press the up and down arrows to move that file, or Home and End to send it to either end. For page-level reordering, split a file first.

Can I merge images or photos into a PDF?

No — this tool merges PDF files only, and a dropped image is refused with a reason rather than silently turned into a page. To combine pictures, convert them to a PDF first and then merge that PDF with the others.

Is there a file size or page limit?

Merging runs locally in your browser, so it can handle large files your device can open. There is no hard cap on the number of files, and files are read one at a time as they are merged rather than all being held in memory at once.

What happens with a password-protected PDF?

Files that declare themselves encrypted are marked Password protected in the list, and the tool still attempts the merge. Some encrypted PDFs merge perfectly; ones protected by a password you have not supplied cannot be decrypted in the browser, so if a file cannot be merged it is left out and named in a message rather than silently producing blank pages.
